ASCII Characters and Compatible Encodings
If you edit an EDGAR HTML file or an EDGAR plain text file in a text editing application, you should use only characters in the American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII). If you use other characters, your file may become unsuitable for the EDGAR system.
ASCII characters include spaces, newline characters, and the following characters:

Uppercase Letters: A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z

Lowercase Letters: a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z

Arabic Numerals: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

Punctuation Marks: . , : ; ' " ! ? ( ) [ ] { }

Miscellaneous Symbols: # @ $ % & * + - = / \ < > | _ ^ ` ~
If you can choose an encoding for your EDGAR HTML file or your EDGAR plain text file using your text editing application, you should choose ASCII or an encoding that is backward-compatible with ASCII. Otherwise, your file may become unsuitable for the EDGAR system. Encodings that are backward-compatible with ASCII include:
UTF‑8
ISO/IEC 8859‑1 (also called ISO Latin 1)
Windows‑1252 (also called Windows Latin 1)
Mac OS Roman
